Rome: Total War, a renowned real-time tactics and turn-based strategy game, offers an immersive experience set during the rule of the late Roman Republic and the early Roman Empire. The game takes players on a thrilling journey across Europe, North Africa, and the Near East as they assume control of one of three prominent Roman families – Julii, Brutii, or Scipii.

The real-time battle system has undergone significant improvements in Rome: Total War, making it more engaging and challenging than ever. One of the key features is the ability to recruit large armies in owned cities and utilize them to take control of enemy cities through force or diplomacy. Players can also build and upgrade various buildings in their cities, including those focused on keeping the population happy, improving the economy, and recruiting new military units.

In addition to managing armies, players must also balance diplomatic relations with other factions, develop infrastructure, and maintain public order by controlling tax rates and organizing gladiatorial games. Each faction's leader and male heirs are controllable, providing unique abilities and morale boosts to soldiers under their command.

The campaign map offers a vast area for expansion, and the player's ultimate goal is to become emperor of Rome by conquering 50 provinces with the support of the people before capturing Rome itself. Alternatively, players can opt for a shorter campaign that focuses on besting other factions in a race to seize control of 15 provinces.

As players begin their journey, they must choose from one of three Roman families, each with its unique advantages and specializations. Outside of the main campaign, eight other playable factions are available, offering a diverse range of experiences and challenges.
